The ABS have just released the 2023 age and sex distribution of people in Capital cities and people in regional (non-Capital city) areas.
What is fascinating with the data is that, from the age of 50 on, there are proportionately more older people living in the regional areas than live in the Capital cities.
That data suggests perhaps a flight to the Capital cities by younger people, it may also be related to the more disadvantaged nature of regional areas, in comparison with Capital cities, as the map indicates. Or to other factors.
Interesting facts, perhaps on their own, but with clear implications for marketing strategies, with sales growth potential, and media used to reach regional audiences. So, if you are business operating in regional areas, or intend to service people in regional area, and are based in a Capital city, researching the composition of your regional markets may well repay review, as they may be a little different to you! 😊
